THE HORDERN UP FOR LEASE
THE FINAL NAIL IN THE COFFIN?
uring Sydney’s draconian lock-out laws in 2017, it was announced that the lease for the Hordern Pavillion along with the adjoining Royal Hall of Industries was up for grabs.
The lease was set to expire in 2021.
Sydney Lord Mayor Clover Moore along with current leaseholder Playbill Venues expressed grave concerns over the future of the Hordern with nearby sporting codes eyeing it off as office space.
Concerns also abounded with a massive redevelopment of the Moore Park entertainment quarter and the possible effect on the pavilion.
A movement began to save the Hordern which resulted in the State Government bowing to public pressure to keep the Hordern as a live venue in 2019.
‘The Hordern Pavilion is an essential venue for Sydney and we will fight to protect it.” Clover Moore, Sydney Lord Mayor.
The Hordern stands as a time capsule and locked within its four walls are the memories of a generation forever dancing on the hallowed floor and in the bleachers of this magical love-filled place.
It was their Beatlemania.
It was their Woodstock.
It was their Punk Rock.
